Giftmas

I'd like to just do donations to a charity for my cousins and such.

I brought up the idea to a couple people who thought it was stupid. Yet I haven't gotten any lists or suggestions from the people whose names I have. Wouldn't you rather $15 get donated to a great cause rather than spent on junk you don't really want, which is always what happens to me? I almost always get crap I don't want and won't use. I'd much rather that $15 went to Planned Parenthood or the Make A Wish foundation, or something like that.

Maybe I'm the only wannabe philanthropist in my family.

I despise the whole gift giving idea for people older than 15 or so. Last year we made charitable donations in everyone's names and it worked out just fine. We also asked everyone to donate in our names to a charity of their choice, which I thought worked well, even though people still bought us some gifts.

Apparently Adam thought otherwise and has now decided that this year we'll do gifts AND a charitable donation so that peeps don't start resenting us for not giving us gifts when they give us something. WTF??? I don't care if people want to give me gifts, I didn't ask for them, and I really don't need to be spending money on useless crap while trying to wrestle a 2yo and haul my pg ass around these days.

Oy sorry for the rant, it just hit close to home today.

Jenni,

My mom flat lined the idea. Of course, she has the foresight to come up with great gift ideas. Yeah, there's also the simplicity factor - for FSM sake, I'm a busy woman!

I think it's a great idea Heather.

We're looking for someplace to volunteer on christmas day in lieu of all the noise.

I also love the term 'giftmas' and have adopted it for use here.
